The effect of set-move sprinkler irrigation system (on flat soil and on corrugations) and furrow-basin on yield and yield components of forage sorghum (Abu-Sabien) was studied for two consecutive seasons in 1995 and 1996. System application and water-use efficiencies were determined and compared. The results showed that more water, ranging from 6% to 25%, was applied by the furrow-basin system than both types of sprinkler irrigation. However, fresh yield of fodder was 14.5% and 12.0% higher under the furrow-basin system than the sprinkler system on flat soil and on corrugations, respectively. On the other hand, water application efficiency under the sprinkler irrigation was higher than that under the furrow-basin system at all irrigation events. Sprinkler irrigation on flat soil and on corrugations gave statistically similar results with respect to application efficiency, water use efficiency, crop growth and yield components.
