2006

An experiment was carried out in the Demonstration Farm of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Khartoum at Shambat for two years (2000 and 2001) to study the response of two forage sorghum cultivars (Pioneer and Abu Sabein) to different rates of chicken manure in winter and summer seasons. The treatments were laid out in a split-split plot design with four replications. The parameters studied were plant density, plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves per plant, leaf area and fresh and dry weights. The results showed significant differences between the seasons, cultivars and chicken manure rates for most of the parameters. The highest rate of chicken manure (7.5 tons /feddan2) significantly increased a number of growth attributes and forage fresh and dry yields. It increased forage fresh yield, in the year 200 1, by 138; and dry weight by 200; compared to the r.ontro!. Pioneer out yielded Abu Sabein throughout the experimental perio d, and the difference in dry matter yield was significant in the second year. Productivity was higher in winter in the first year and summer in the second year
