Ricestar 6.9 percent EC (fenoxaprop-p-ethyl 6.9 percent EC) is a herbicide for control grass weeds in wet-sown direct seeded rice. Two trials of Ricestar 6.9 percent EC were conducted at Suphanburi and Chainat, Thailand during June-October 1998. Ricestar 6.9 percent EC at 4, 5.5 and 7 g ai/rai applied at 10 and 15 days after sowing were compared to fenoxaprop-p-ethyl 7.5 percent EW (Whip 7.5 EW) at 8 g ai/rai applied at 10 days after sowing, untreated control and hand weeding. Result showed that Ricestar 6.9 percent EC at 4, 5.5 and 7 g ai/rai applied at 10 and 15 days after sowing caused slightly phytotoxic to rice while fenoxaprop-p-ethyl 7.5 percent EW caused moderately phytotoxic. Ricestar 6.9 percent EC gave good control for grasses (Echinochloa crusgalli, Leptochloa chinensis and Ischaemum rugosum) at all tested rates and application timings. The result showed that highest rate, 7 g ai/rai of Ricestar 6.9 percent EC was slightly superior to other lower rates. Moreover, Ricestar at every rate and timing could reduce grasses competitiveness to rice. Subsequently, treated plot of Ricestar gave significantly higher yield than untreated control.
