Winner 22 SC (anilofos 21 percent/ethoxysulfuron 1 percent W/W SC) is an early-post emergence herbicide for general weeds control in wet-sown direct seeded rice. Two trials of Winner 22 SC were conducted at Suphanburi and Angthong, Thailand during October, 1998-March, 1999. Winner 22 SC at 44, 55 and 66 g ai/rai applied at 8 and 12 days after sowing were compared with anilofos 30 percent EC at 52.5 and 63 g ai/rai applied at 8 and 12 days after sowing, ethoxysulfuron 15 percent WG at 2.5 and 3 g ai/rai applied at 8 and 12 days after sowing, respectively. Local standard product propanil/thiobencarb, at 320 g ai/rai applied at 15 days after sowing was also introduced. The result showed that Winner 22 SC at all 3 tested rates (44, 55 and 66 g ai/rai) causes slightly toxic to rice. Efficacy of Winner 22 SC in every tested rates and timings could control grasses (Leptochloa chinensis (L.) Nees.) sedges and broadleaves from good to complete control levels. It was found that the application of Winner 22 SC, at 8 days after sowing also gave a good control of Echinochloa crusgalli (L.) Beauv. The results showed that higher rate, 66 g ai/rai, provided a better control than lower rates, 44 and 55 g ai/rai, when applied at 12 days after sowing. Moreover, Winner 22 SC in every rates and every timings could reduce competition between weeds and rice. Yield of rice treated with Winner 22 SC was significantly higher than untreated.
