Effect of environment on adaptability growth and development of vetiver (Vetiveria zizanioides L.) in eastern Bhutan
1996
Dukpa, N. | Legha, P.K. | Dhungel, D.
Field experiment was conducted to study the growth and development of two vetiver types (South Indian Types=SIT and North Indian type=NIT) at three altitudes i.e. 640, 1640 and 2200 m ASL im Eastern Bhutan. It was observed that 12 months after transplanting and top aerial part cutting at 30 cm in winter season for herb yield, it was recorded that tillers per clone, root lets per clone, root diameter plant height and leaf breadth was significantly higher in NIT over SIT in the respective altitudes. Also, it was observed that during winter season it provides green fodder ranging from 21.9 ti 34.2 in first year and during second year winter season it was from 29 to 45 g/ha. Thus in Bhutan NIT is more vigour and adaptable. Further it was observed that both types flower but SIT gives very less number of viable seeds.
