A study on the genotoxic effect of the pesticide Imidacloprid in rabbit peripheral blood lymphocytes in vitro II. Modification of the effect of Imidacloprid by vitamins (C and E)
2007
Georgieva, S. | Popov, B.
The effect of a combination of two vitamins upon the in vitro frequency of sister chromatid exchanges (SCE) in rabbit peripheral lymphocytes, induced by the pesticide imidacloprid, was investigated. The lymphocytes cultures were treated with 100 ѓКg/ml vitamin „R and 20 ѓКg/ml vitamin E by the 24th hour of incubationandrsquo;s start, the vitamins being applied simultaneously with the pesticide. The analysis of data showed a reduced SCE frequency per cell after the application of vitamin combination. The observed dose-dependent increase in SCE frequency in lymphocytes treated with Confidor was present after vitamin administration too, but the rate of SCE per cell was diminished. The statistically significant differences in cell cultures, either treated or untreated with vitamins was indicative about the presence of a protective effect against the imidacloprid challenge. An attempt to explain the mechanism of the protective effect of both vitamins („R+„E) was made.
