[Transformation of heavy metals in the process of organic wastes vermicomposting]

Reshetsky, N.P.(Belarus State Academy of Agriculture, Gorki (Belarus))
Obtained in conditions of experiments data do not give the unequivocal answer to a question on expediency of use vermiculture for processing organic waste with high heavy metals content, but allow to consider, that the situation with heavy metals in end-products considerably improves. First, their part is absorbed by organisms of worms. According to V.A.Kasatikova presence of accumulation of heavy metals by a biomass of earthworms with following levels of factor biological absorption, reaching for Ni, Zn, Cd the values equal of 5,0, 5,0, 12,0 units accordingly is revealed. Secondly, heavy metals mobility due to increase in vermicomposts of more remote for plants of heavy metals fractions decreases. In the third, the vermicomposts are of little volume a kind of fertilizer with the prolonged action. Dozes of their entering are insignificant and shakes within the limits of from 1 up to 5 t/ha with which in ground smaller heavy metal quantity with the lowered migratory ability will act. However long application of such kind of fertilizer can lead to pollution of ground by metals. Therefore the question on expediency vermicomposting of hard domestic wastes, sewage precipitation and other kinds of organic waste should be solved in each concrete case in view of their properties, volumes of accumulation, content of heavy metals and ways of application of end-products and obligatory ecological examination
