Effects of some environmental factors on the hygienic quality of milk

A lower somatic cell count was recorded in milk obtained by direct-to-can milking, as compared with pipeline milking and parlor milking. On the other hand, the total bacterial count was lower in milk obtained from milking parlors. Cows kept in the tying stall system provided milk with a lower somatic cell count and higher total bacterial count than cows keep in free stall system. The somatic cell count in milk increased, and the total bacterial count decreased at higher milk productivity levels
