Modern tendencies in breeding programs are shown. New clonal apple rootstock and their performance are presented. The perspective use of original material in breeding programs is highlihted. It is well-known, that today M9 is the main stock in gardening of the majority of the western countries, despite of a number of lacks: difficulty of duplication, weak trees anckorness in a garden, a susceptibility to a bacterial burn, to a blood apple scab, low winter hardiness and drought resistance. In this connection the main task of the majority of the presented programs was receiving of an alternative M9 stock with the best ability to duplication, high winter hardiness and stability to a bacterial burn. Conducted clonal selection of M9 stock as a result of which clones M9 Emla (England) have been received, T337- T340 (Netherlands), RN 29 (Belgium), Pajam 1 and Pajam 2 (France), etc., has not brought essential results. At comparison of clones with usual M9 stock the difference on force of growth and efficiency has not exceeded 15 %. Possibly, in the future will be much more opportunities to use genic engineering for improvement of existing dwarfish stocks of an apple-tree
