Modificando el medio; Emerson (9), se obtuvo un medio selectivo para realizar aislamientos de Erwinia chrysanthemi Burk et al. , a partir de vainas de plátano afectadas por este patógeno, y también para ser utilizado en estudios de supervivencia de esta bacteria en el suelo. Las colonias características del patógeno son observables antes de las 48 horas, ya que el medio tiene efecto estimulante en su crecimiento y además, efecto inhibitorio para los saprófitos presentes en tejidos descompuestos. El medio es recomendable para la observación de aislamientos por un período mínimo de 2 meses.

A selective medium for isolation of Erwinia chrysanthemi Burk et al., from affected banana sheaths which can also be used in survival studies of this bacterium in soil was obtained by a modification of Emerson's medium. Characteristic colonies of the pathogen can be observed before 48 h due to the stimulating effect of the medium on its growth and on the inhibition of most of saprophytes present in the decayed tissues. In adition, this medium is suitable for the preservation of isolates for a minimal period of 2 months.
