Quarantine activities aim the exclusion of exotic pests as an important tool of phytosanitary measures. However, other pests rather than quarantine, are also extremely important to agricultural systems within a country. In Brazil, following the criteria adopted by the International Convention of Plant Protection (FAO), pests that are under official control, have been classified in three categories: (a) exotic pests, known as quarantine pests A1, (b) pests present in restricted areas of the country, known as quarantine pests A2 and (c) pests known to cause great injuries in crop systems. Brazil has officially listed 102 insects, identified as quarantine pest A1 and A2. However, with the dynamics of transportation means and globalization of trades, a number of 146 must be added to the official list, as they represent a great potential of risk to the brazilian agriculture. The primary aim of the present work is to provide a systematic account of the pests that can be introduced in the country based on published scientific articles of their biology. A short version of Pest Risk Analysis was therefore, carried out in order to accomplish the goals.
