Dispersión, distribución actual y nuevos reservorios de Frankliniella schultzei Trybom (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) en Cuba.

Durante el período 2001-2006 se realizaron muestreos en diferentes provincias de Cuba que permitieron actualizar la situación de F. schultzei en relación con el grado de dispersión logrado por la especie, así como las plantas que le sirven de reservorios y su distribución. Se detectó la presencia de esta especie de trips en la mayoría de las provincias del país, y se reconoció que su mayor distribución la alcanza en la región oriental, especialmente en Camagüey, Granma, Holguín, Santiago de Cuba y Guantánamo. Las especies botánicas sobre los que se detectó F. schultzei alcanzaron la cifra de 94, de las cuales 84 se informan por primera vez para el país. No obstante, el insecto se detectó de forma mayoritaria solamente sobre 24 especies de plantas, básicamente vegetales, hortalizas y ornamentales. El mayor número de detecciones correspondió a las rosas de diferentes colores, y se realizó también un número considerable de ellas sobre quimbombó, abrojo, margaritas japonesas, lirios, espinaca, tomate, claveles, calabaza, carolá, berenjena y habichuelas, lo que apunta a las preferencias de F. schultzei. Debido a la posibilidad de infectarse con tospovirus, que presentan algunas de estas especies de plantas, y dada la capacidad vectora de estos patógenos _demostrada por este trips en numerosos países, incluidos algunos de este hemisferio_, se considera que son ellas las que actualmente poseen el mayor peligro potencial de resultar afectadas por esas enfermedades virales.

Samplings in different provinces of Cuba were carried out during the period 2001-2006 that allowed upgrading the status of F. schultzei in relation with the dispersion grade achieved by the species, as well as the plants that serve it as reservoirs and their distribution. The presence of this trips species was detected in most of the provinces and it was recognized that its biggest distribution is reached in the oriental region, especially in Camagüey, Granma, Holguín, Santiago de Cuba and Guantánamo. Botanical species on those F. schultzei was detected reached the figure of 94 and 84 of them are informed the first time for the country. Nevertheless, the insect was only detected in a majority way on 24 species of plants, basically vegetables and ornamentals. The biggest number of detections corresponded to different colours roses, and a considerable number of them on quimbombó (lady’s fingers), thistle, Japanese daisies, irises, spinach, tomato, carnations, pumpkin, carolá, eggplant and kidney beans, what points out to the preferences of F. schultzei. Keeping in mind the possibility to be infected with tospovirus that present some of these species of plants and given the vector capacity of these patogens _demonstrated by this thrips in numerous countries, including some of our hemisphere_, it is considered they possess the biggest danger potential to be affected by this viral group at the moment.
