To investigate ability of silicon absorption with different rice varieties ( Low input )
2003
Shahdi Kumleh, Abbas
In an experiment with the surface and low available silicium soils of Gilan paddy fields, the absorption ability of ten local and improved rice variety was investigated by the application of different amounts of rice silicate. The study was carried out in a pot experiment and with randomized complete block design in three replicates. To determine the effect of silicon on rice plant shoot, plant sampling was done with cutting one plant from collar area as well as drying and weighting the amounts of silicium in each three growth stages of final tillering, before paniciling and maturity (post harvesest). The results of analysis of variance showed that in all growth stages, the separate effects of silicate application and rice variety silicon concentration, dry weight and silicon uptake of rice plant shoot was one precent significant. Comparison of mean based Danken test showed that high silicium consumption had significant effects on measured char acteristics. In each growth stages, the most amount of dry weight yield was observed in the final tillering stage for Hassani and Neda varietiesbefore paniclling for Domsia, Domzard and Hassani varieties and complete maturation stage for Binam and Domzard. The results of this study showed that the silicon uptake is a better variable than silicon concentration during rice plant growth stages. Moreover, for interducing and selecting of different rice varieties as an index of silicon absorption ability, the growth stage and the kind of rice plant sampling be considered.
