Study on the biology of citrus aleyrodids in south of Iran
2003
Bassiri, Gh.(Plant Pests and Diseases Research Institute)
The results obtained throughout a three years of study (1999-2001) on the biology of citrus aleyrodids in Boushehr and Fars provinces showed that both species ,Aleuroclava sp.(near pongamiae) and Aleurolobus niloticus Priesner and Hosny exist in both provinces. The dominant species in Boushehr is Aleuroclava sp. and in Fars is A. niloticus .Puparial exuvium of Aleuroclava sp. is transparent and of A.niloticus is black. In Boushehr ,Aleuroclava sp. established mostly on lime,(Citrus aurantifolia),and in Fars province, sweet lemon,(Citrus limetta) was highly infected with A. niloticus. Both species of citrus aleyrodids overwinter as fourth instar nymphs or puparium. Eggs of both species are laid on the underside of leaves and attached to the surface by a short pedicel. In greenhouse condition life span of Aleuroclava sp.and A.niloticus was obtained 39±4 and 45±4 days respectively. Aleuroclava sp. and A.niloticus had 5-6, and 3-4 generations respecti vely per year. Spatial distribution of citrus aleyrodids revealed that A.niloticus vertically distributed mostly in lower parts of the host plant.Different geographical directions and also different heights of the host plant had not any significant effect on the distribution of Aleuroclava sp. on citrus trees. Citrus aleyrodids preferred young leaves for oviposition.
