Resistance of nineteen Hamedani-lucern ecotypes belong to old and conventional Hamedani lucern production areas, four other Iranian cultivars and Maopa and Ranger ( susceptible) to alfalfa stem nematode, Ditylenchus dipsaci ( Kuhn, 1857) Filipev, 1936 was tested under laboratory and greenhouse conditions. According to results number of seedlings without infection two weeks after inoculation showed very significant difference between all treatments and seed masses from Peernahan (1), Kuzarah and Mamahan respectively with 86, 80 and 76 percents of resistance were beter than others. Counting the number of plants two months after inoculation in greenhouse revealed very significant differences between ecotypes and seed masses of Peernahan (1) and Kuzareh 41% and 39% uninfected plants were resistant and Ranger with 3/6% uninfected plants was succeptiblealthough the number of nematodes per plant two months after inoculation in greenhouse in seed masses of Peernahan (2), Mamahan, Ghuzarkagin, Kurvandeh and Khaakrize were respectively 6, 7, 8, 10 and 13 in which Maopa with 488 nematode per plant was the most succeptible cultivar. Study of the population dynamics of the nematode in Ekbatan research station showed two increase in population curve, the highest number of nematode per 5 gr. of plant was in the mid June on the first cutting after a periode of cool weather with high relative humidity and the lowest numbers were in mid august after second cutting and first of february with a snow cover and – 6 0 C low temperature. Another small increase in population was in the first weeks of the fall.
