Study of drought stress effects on changes of yield and its components in sunflower cultivars

To determine varieties of drought stress tolerant and find the best drought stress indices, a experiment was carried out in a randomized complete block design with 3 replication with 6 genotypes (Azargol, Allstar, Record, Mehr, CMS60/52 * R82, CMS19 * R256 ) at Islamabad Research Station in 2002-2003. genotypes were planted in two separated experiment one with normal irrigation and the other three times irrigation in planting, budding and flowering stages. Agronomic traits including days to flowering, days to maturity, duration of flowering, leaf area index, leaf per plant, stem diameter, head diameter, plant height, grain yield ,1000 seed weight and seed oil(%) were recorded. results of combined variance analysis showed that there was significant difference in the grain yield of genotypes in drought stress condition and no significant difference in normal irrigation. results showed that drought stress caused a drastic reduction of leaf area index, grain yield, stem diameter and plant height. in normal irrigation condition the highest grain yield optained from mehr and record with 3908 and 3901 kg/ha, respectively. In droughtstress condition, the highest grain yield obtained from Azargol and Record with 2850 and 2634 kg/ha, respectively.indices of drought stress tolerance including mean productivity (MP), geometrical mean productivity(GMP), tolerance(ToL), stress susceptibility index(SSI) and stress tolerance index(STI) according to grain yield of genotypes in both conditions normal irrigation and drought stress were recorded. it seems that stress tolerant index(STI) and geometrical mean(GMP) are the best indices to evaluate of genotypes drought stress tolerance. According to sti and gmp , record and mehr were superior genotypes.
