Association between serological status for Neospora caninum and BVDV in bulk tank milk and reproductive performances in dairy herds in Veneto (Northern Italy) [Bovine Viral Diarrhoea Virus]

إنجليزي. This study examined the serological status for Neospora caninum (N. caninum) and BVD virus (BVDV) in bulk tank milk in 892 dairy cattle in the Veneto region. Our results highlighted the wide distribution of neosporosis and BVD in dairy herds as described in previous surveys in Italy as well as in foreign Countries. The calving interval was longer in herds with high bulk milk reactivity to N. caninum, whereas serostatus towards BVDV did not have any significant effect on this parameter. Many factors play an important and often concurrent role on dairy cattle reproduction (e.g. infectious diseases, management, nutrition, etc.), so that it could be difficult to evaluate their individual weight. However, this longer calving interval can be considered meaningful because of the high number of farms tested in our study

L'infezione da Neospora caninum (N. caninum) e virus BVD (BVDV) è stata indagata in 892 aziende di bovine da latte della regione Veneto mediante analisi anticorpale su latte di massa. I risultati ottenuti hanno confermato la notevole diffusione di entrambe le malattie, come già evidenziato da numerosi studi condotti sia in Italia, sia all'estero. L'interparto risulta significativamente più lungo nelle aziende con forte reattività anticorpale verso N. caninum rispetto a quelle sierologicamente negative. Tale parametro, al contrario, non è correlato al livello di sieropositività nei confronti di BVDV. La fertilità bovina è notoriamente influenzata da numerosi fattori (infettivi, manageriali, alimentari, ecc.), spesso operanti in modo sinergico e pertanto non facilmente valutabili nella loro reale importanza. Tuttavia, il peggioramento dell'interparto, evidenziato nelle aziende con intensa reattività per N. caninum, è un dato che appare significativo per l'ampiezza del campionamento effettuato
