Pure Horticultural Experimental Station is the first research institution in the Baltic States. It was founded in 1930, but its history is much older. After the World War I in the spring of 1920 State Horticulture Farm was created for growing root crops and seeds in Kandava estate, but in the autumn the same year a decision was made to relocate the station to Pure estate. Scientific research direction started in 1928. Today scientists of Pure Horticultural Experimental Station are dealing with growing fruit and vegetable, plant protection, and growing of protected cultures. The authors of the book reflect not only the scientific and business activity of Pure Horticultural Experimental Station, but also its foundation in development of research and tradition making in horticulture of Latvia.
