2007
Gaile, Z.
Determination of the best sowing date of maize in conditions of Latvia has been carried out on the Training and Research Farm Vecauce, Latvia University of Agriculture from 2000 till 2003. Different early hybrids are used in research: 'Earlystar'(France), early, FAO number 160, 'RM-20' (France), early, FAO number 180, 'Tango' (Germany), average early, FAO number 210 and very late hybrid 'Cefran' (Czech Republic), FAO number 340. Maize was sowing in four different times at 10 days interval (25 April, 5 May, 15 May and 25 May). Crop was harvested in four different times from 1 September and at 10 days interval between harvesting time. The following have been concluded: (1) sowing date essentially impact crop yield; (2) maize sowing areas every year a little increases, because dairy farmers understand significance of maize in cows feeding.
