[Does feed stuff provide necessary energy for milking cows?]
2007
Ositis, U.
For high productivity dairy cows in postpartum period cannot provide all necessary energy with local produce feed (grass or maize fodder, grain). In the article authors introduce how to choose the suitable feed product - the cheapest with less energy value or expensive with high energy value. Author concludes that in postpartum period cows energy balance was negative. Problems, which connect with negative energy balance are: weight losses in the first 100 days of lactation; delay rutting time - long lasting negative energy balance delay ovulation; after reaching of maximal milk yield it rapidly decrease; ketosis - cow became apathetic, loss of appetite. Glucose is the main energy source of organism. Feed additives - propylenglycol and glycerol - by-product in production of bio-diesel fuel will provide at least small amounts of energy. Propylenglycol helps in glucose formation and increase of plasma insulin content in cow's blood.
