Staphylococcus aureus is well known as one of the most important causative agent of food poisoning, especially in milk and milk products. However, the most of the staphylococcal strains are enterotoxigenic and produce one or several enterotoxin serotypes. In the article results of investigation are shown: (1) Prevalence of enterotoxigenic Staphylococcus aureus in milk products marketed in Latvia, (2) The possible relationship with mastitic milk and contamination of milk products with enterotoxigenic Staphylococcus ayreus. During investigations were found, that the 24.1% of S.aureus isolates from machine made milk products and 15.2% of S.aureus isolates from milk products on market can produce enterotoxins. The enterotoxin producing S.aureus were found in all analyzed milk products, except fermented milk products. The enterotoxin A (SEA) producing S.aureus are the dominant strain in the machine made milk products in Latvia, but SEA, SEB and SEC strains were found in milk products, marketed in Latvia.
