إنجليزي. The International Network for the Improvement of Banana Plantain (INIBAP) has established the electronic exchange of germplasm data through the Musa Germplasm Information System (MGIS). The MGIS is aimed to collect detailed and standardized information on the varieties stored in the different collections throughout the world and to facilitate access for the international scientific community. This database contains records of accessions held including taxonomic descriptions, morphological characterization, agronomic evaluations to stress, susceptibility to diseases and photos. MGIS is intended for three types of users: 1) curators of collections who has a primary role since they enter the information in MGIS which intends to be a tool for the efficient management of their collections. 2) INIBAP which centralizes, verifies, diffuses and manages the information provided by the collections, and 3) researchers interested in the information collecte d in MGIS. At present, there are 15 countries and institutions around the world contributing information in this database. Steps are being done for the MGIS to be accessed through the INIBAP website.
