إنجليزي. The Philippine feed industry is currently experiencing hard times, especially in terms of stable supply of corn and other feed ingredients. This has seriously affected the animal industry. The development of alternative feed resources will help alleviate this situation. This lecture assessed the current situation on the use of alternative feeds, and possible approaches to increase their incorporation in animal feeds. The dynamically changing world economic conditions affect greatly the country's potential to increase its market for various crops. Thus, it becomes necessary to explore other uses of those agronomic products. Such products from root crops, coconut, legume seeds, sugarcane, etc. could be used as feed ingredient for animals. As previous feeding trials have shown, full or partial replacements of usual ingredients with AFR [ alternative feed resources] may be possible. The biggest concerns lie in the volume of those AFRs that would ma ke it economically feasible for feed millers to revise their formulas. Research to further establish the feding values of those local AFRs is necessary, especially in determining the metabolizable energy and essential amino acid contents.
