A pot experiment was conducted with silt loam soil of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) and silty clay loam of Madhupur tract in the net house of Department of Soil Science, BAU, Mymensingh. The objective was to observe the effect of inorganic and organic fertilizers on concentration and uptake of heavy metal (Cd) by rice plant. The results indicated that Cd concentration in rice plant ranged from 0.17 to 1.53 mg per kg in BAU soil and 1.33 to 2.24 mg per kg in Madhupur soil. Total Cd uptake by rice plant varied from "0.31 to 8.99 and 4.99 to 11.89 mug per plant in BAU and Madhupur soils, respectively. Inorganic fertilizers were dominant over organic manure with respect to Cd content in plants. Cd concentration decreased with increase of total dry matter (TDM) yield but total accumulation increased with increasing TDM.
