The aim of the paper was to present the usage of yield component analysis employing a concept of primary characters as well as comparison of yield determination by its components for two morphologically different winter triticale cultivars: Bogo (traditional, and Fidelio (dwarf). The statistical analysis has revealed that grain yield of both cultivars was a different extent determined by its components. For both cultivars, the least significant component was number of spikes per square m (first yield component and at first primary character), in case of Bogo the influence of this component was small but for Fidelio grain yield was completely independent of this component
