The relationships between content of phytoplankton biomass and coefficients of a general contamination of waters with organic matters in the 12 points of the Odra rivers were examined in years 1994-96 and 2000-01. The coefficient of content phytoplankton biomass was chlorophyll (Chl), and of the organic contamination one was: biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5) and chemical oxygen demand-manganic (COD Mn) and chromate (COD Cr). Changes of the coefficients in the study period along the downstream section of the Odra river were presented. Significant positive regressions between yearly averages of the contents Chl a and with levels BOD and COD-Mn in a section of the river with rural river basin were found, and significant negative regression between yearly averages of the contents Chl a and with levels COD-Cr in a section of the river with urban river basin were found
