The influence of the Wapienica (Poland) storage reservoir on the number and distribution of the benthos macroinvertebrates as bioindicators are presented in the paper. Their occurrence almost everywhere and their relation with specific elements of environment allow to determine the condition of a biocenosis under study. Biological invetigations of water at three selected cross-sections upstream and down stream of the dam were completed with physicochemical and microbiological analyses, which gave the full image of biocenosis state. The state of homeostasis will be maintained so long as the rule of conservation of structure, productivity, matter cycle, energy conversion and process stabilization in ecosystems is presented
