Effect of addition of folic acid, synthetic beta-carotene and vitamin A on sows performance

The results of seven experiments on the effect of folic acid, beta-carotene and vitamin A on sows fecundity and fertility are presented. Three experiments were performed on primiparous sows, another three - on multiparous sows. The seventh experiment was carried out with primiparous sows and continued through the consecutive three reproductive cycles. The reproductive performance of sows was tested. In post mortem evaluation of sows reproductive organs, carried out on the 30th day of pregnancy, the number of viable, died or partially resorbed foetuses as well as number of corpora lutea, embryo survival rate and anatomical characteristics of uterus were examined. The concentration of folic acid, urea, glucose, Ca and P as well as aspargine and alanine transferases activity were checked in the blood of animals
