Data from total 773 AI (artificial insemination) sows in the first post-weaning oestrus, were used to study the relationship between weaning-to-oestrus interval (WEI) and optimum timing of AI, with fertility results. Sows that were AI in the optimal time relative to WEI duration, showed consistent high farrowing rate (91.7%, 80.7% or 83.6%) in comparison with sows that were AI in the same time irespective to WEI (67.1%, 73.2% or 66.6%). The litter size (live born piglets) were not significantly related with time of AI in the same WEI group of sows (10.9 : 10.2) for WEI up to 4 days (10.2 : 10.4) for WEI 5-6 days and (9.2 : 9.2) for WEI 7 days or more. These results suggest that optimal AI time relative to WEI significantly influence sows fertility.
