Parasites of hares (Lepus europaeus) and quails (Coturnix coturnix) in Backa region [Serbia]

Hares and quails carried many intestinal parasites. In our region we examined 57 fecal samples from hares and 37 from quails, huntered in the northern part of country, in the Backa region. In our investigation we registered oocysts of Eimeria spp. in 70% samles. We also registered intestinal helmints: Trichuris leporis in 45%, and Trychostrongylus retortaeformis in 22.5% in the same samples. We registered Eimeria spp. in 13.5% quails. After dissection of small intestine, it was discovered that 18.9% quails had cestodes from genus Hymenolepis and 10.8% had nematodes Heterakis gallinarum.
