Evaluation of genetic distance and combining abilities for sunflower inbred lines (Helianthus annuus L.): [Master thesis]
2006
Gvozdenovic, S.
Combining abilities and modes of inheritance for plant height, head diameter, 1000-seed mass, seed yield per plant, oil content and oil yield per plant were investigated in twenty sunflower inbred lines and their F1 hybrids, using line x tester analysis. Also, molecular markers were used to determine genetic distance of sunflower genotypes. The mean value of parents and their F1 progenies were significantly different for all studied traits. In the inheritance of all investigated traits heterosis was manifested. Besides heterosis, dominance, partial dominance and intermediarity were approved. Sunflower inbreds showed significant and different effects of general combining abilities for all traits. Multiple F1 hybrids had highly significant values of specific combining abilities for all examined traits. Genetic distances between pairs of inbreds were from 13% to 80%, and the average was 46.5%. There were no significant correlation between genetic distance on the one hand and heterosis, SCA and mean values of the traits on the other, apart for comparation every tester line and every trait individually. Based on the results, perspective hybrids could be: HA-48A x FT-284, HA-26A x RHA-BRE-1, HA-26A x RHA-LR-18, HA-19A x RHA-LR-18, and HA-48A x PL-4-108.
