Regional typology of the farms belonging to natural persons and possible short-time trends in countryside development
2004
Buchta, S.,Vyskumny ustav ekonomiky polnohospodarstva a potravinarstva, Slovak Republic
The paper deals with regional typology of the farms belonging to natural persons and with possible short-time trends in countryside development in connection with the EU integration. More positive changes in the countryside development are perspective only in long-term horizon. Pragmatical short-term possibilities indicates that employment in agriculture (in the period of 2004-2006) will slightly decrease also after the integration. Higher seasonal unstableness will affect the average labour force numbers and consequently the total employment in agriculture. Not even the new economic environment connected with the structutral and regional policy will halt a decrease of employment, it will only alleviate the pace and intensity of this process. But on the other hand, the total employment in countryside will slightly increase in the mentioned period (in consequence of various support schemes, the relative high economic growth, reform of labour policy etc.) After the integration to the EU, all viable groups of the farms belonging to non registered natural persons will be redeveloped and stimulated namely not only because of raising domestic demand (with regard to enhanced household expenditures on foodstuffs) but also because of geographic market enhancement of their products and removing of tariff barriers. This will liven up certain types of the so-called ôpartly self-supplying farmsö, especially in the productive southern regions of the west and middle Slovakia.
