The influence of inorganic (ammonium and nitrate) nitrogen on radish yield parameters has been studied in a three years' small-plot trial. It was realized in a mechanically air-conditioned and irrigated glasshouse, on an antropic substrate which consisted of loamy orthic luvisol, sand and Terravita garden soil. There has been revealed that inorganic nitrogen occurring in the soil layer 0-0.2 m determined mainly quantitative parameters at the beginning of plant growing period while later (in the second half of the growing period) there mainly qualitative parameters were determined. The higher the content of Nan in the substrate was, the higher the bulb yield was but the bulb quality decreased (the content of vitamin C was lower and the content of nitrates higher). The effect of ammonium nitrogen and nitrate nitrogen on radish yield parameters did not correspond. At the beginning of the growing period (first 3/5) the yield increased as a result of increased N-NO3 in the soil but, on the contrary, by increasing N-NH4 the yield decreased. The content of the nitrates in the radish bulbs and leaves was more clearly determined by the nitrate nitrogen level than the ammonium one.
