In this paper original photographs of ciliated protozoa noted in 2006 were given. The dominant were stalked ciliates, sometimes very numerous (up to 190 000 individuals per ml in return activated sludge). The most abundant were Vorticella microstoma, Vorticella convallaria and Opercularia spp. The crawling ciliates were also common, with Aspidisca costata as dominant species. Free-living ciliates (Euplotes spp., Litonotus fasciola, Colpidium spp., Paramecium spp.) were not abundant and were only occasionally noted, which could indicate the toxicity of influent waste waters.
