New brown fields (and derelict land) in Slovakia
2004
Curlik, J.,State Geological Survey of Slovakia, Bratislava (Slovak Republic)
Brown fields and some related problems which arose mostly during the transition period of Slovak Republic to EU (1993 - 2004) are presented. Due to big political changes, changing economies, non-solved ownership brown fields resulted not only from industrial, but paradoxically also from agricultural (forestry) activities. Beside classification principles of brown fields, causes of their origin are described. The main task, however, is to stress the necessity of their redevelopment as most of them may cause real or suspected environmental problems. Unfortunately, at present existing legislation did not addressed this issue and problem in its scientific basis does not belong to EU priorities.
