Abiding with european requirements for food safety of small and middle-size enterprises in Great Britain

The goal of this paper is to identify the main factors for abiding with EU standards for food safety in Great Britain and to analyze from the methodological point of view, the experience of researchers in this field. The paper is based on the publications for several empirical investigations for abiding with European standards of small and middle-size enterprises in the food and processing industry. Reviewed are following aspects of abiding: l The expenses incurred by firms from food-processing industry; l The enterprises' resources; l The awareness and motivation of the managers; l Qualification of the personnel; l Effectiveness of the official control. The main conclusion that is extracted is that the successful strategy for food safety is based on several factors: l High motivation grounded on the benefits for the firms from adopting of the regulations; l Well-informed with hygiene practices the enterprises' personnel; l The customers' pressure for introducing of high standards for safety in each stage from the food chain; l The simple legislation concerning the food sphere; l The efficient implementation of the legislation in the sphere of food.
