It has been earlier proved, that it was necessary to pay attention on number of the spikes on the bottom part of the ear as it defined the best efficiency and winter hardiness. This method of eye estimation of a degree of number of the spikes on the ear till now is inconsistent. Studying of different structural signs of ear using for selection by visual method is the aim of research. The following signs of winter wheat ear are examined: maximal size of ear according to the number of spikes, with or without reduction in the lower part of the ear, and the place of the biggest spike on the ear, which are relative to productivity and hardiness. Selection according to these signs is suggested. From the received data follows, that the ear integrates in the structure both hereditary, and external factors, both optimum, and not optimum conditions of environment
