Now in Belarus more than 140 constructions of biological sewage sludge treatment by total productivity more than 3,3 million m3/day are maintained. Annually about 180 - 197 thousand tons of sewage sludge are formed on dry substance. The most part is superfluous active silt. Long - term field experiments have shown that application of dehydrated sewage sludge in doses from 10 up to 50 t on dry matter on 1 ha increases yield of cereal crops on 150 - 220% with aftereffect during two years. Nevertheless, in Belarus till now the volume of their use as fertilizer is insignificant (1,5 - 10% of total of deposit). The basic obstacle for application of sewage sludge of aeration stations in agriculture was the high content of heavy metals in them. So, the content of heavy metals in sewage sludge of Minsk areas is the following (mg/kg): zinc - 4237, lead - 243, nickel - 596, cadmium - 48, copper - 1862, chrome - 3642, that in 1,5 - 2 times above maximum permissible concentration. For decrease in pollution of soil by heavy metals it is offered to use the dried up superfluous active silt as the additive at reception of complex fertilizers by a method of mechanochemical activation
