[Influence of manganese sulphate and cobaltic sulphate on some indices of protein metabolism in heifers sick with osteodystrophy]

Ivanov, V.N., Vitebsk State Academy of Veterinary Medicine (Belarus)
Determination of the influence of manganese sulphate and cobaltic sulphate on the biochemical indices of blood (albumen, globulins) and clinical state of heifers sick with osteodystrophy was realized in the conditions of the Republic of Belarus characterized by low content of mineral substances and excess rate of strontium in soils. Investigation of incidence of osteodystrophy disease of heifers proved that it was a widespread pathology of metabolic function as fetus formation required more nutritive and mineral substances especially in the last third term of pregnancy (in the period of formation and mineralizatuion of the skeleton). Administration of manganese sulphate and cobaltic sulphate for heifers sick with osteodystrophy caused the lowering of crude protein in blood serum and increased the level of manganese in blood. As a result of the experiment it was not recommended to use pure manganese salts and was proposed to combine them with the substances which stimulated the protein elaboration. Administration of manganese sulphate in combination with cobaltic sulphate once a day in course of two weeks increased the content of these elements in blood on 28% and 14% accordingly and increased the content of crude protein in blood serum on 7%. The level of albumines increased on 4,4% and level of globulines – on 9,1%
