Parasitic Hymenoptera associated with Thecodiplosis brachyntera (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) on the genus Pinus (Pinaceae) in the Czech Republic

Aprostocetus micantulus (Chalcidoidea: Eulophidae), Torymus heyeri (Chalcidoidea: Torymidae), Pseudencyrtus idmon (Chalcidoidea: Encyrtidae) and Platygaster compressicornis (Platygasteroidea: Platygasteridae) are four main parasitoids reared from galls of Thecodiplosis brachynter (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) developing on Pinus mugo, P. rotundata, P. sylvestris L. and P. x pseudopumilio in the Czech Republic during the outbreak in 1967-1972. Of total 4,279 parasitoid specimens, Platygaster compressicornis (1,778 specimens) was the most abundant, Aprostocetus micantulus (1,047 specimens), Pseudencyrtus idmon (1,020 specimens) and Torymus heyeri (434 specimens) were less abundant. In laboratory conditions, adults of Platygaster compressicornis emerged simultaneously with adults of T. brachyntera, whereas those of Pseudencyrtus idmon and Torymus heyeri emerged 14-24 days after the emergence of T. brachyntera. In Aprostocetus micantulus, the delay was 24-60 days. Behaviour of adult parasitoids during the process of building the opening hole to escape from the gall is described.
