An experiment to study variability and heritability of nitrate reductase activity, total N content, and other important traits in soybean at flooding condition were conducted at the Agriculture Experiment Station of the Faculty of Agriculture, Winaya Mukti University, Tanjungsari, Sumedang, from July 2000 until December 2000. The research was arranged in randomized block design with two replications and fifty genotypes of soybeans as entries. Results of the experiment showed that chlorophyll content, number of effective root nodules, NRA in leaf and root, and total N content in plant had wide genetic and phenotypic variabilities, and on the other hand the variabilities were low for diameter of base stem, and also was low for STI. Broad sense heritability estimates were high for number of effective root nodules and total N content in plant, and were medium for chlorophyll content, NRA in leaf and root, but were low for diameter of base stem and STI.
