Natural silk community of Indonesia is already left behind compare to other countries that have developing already on the silk program, especially on the cultivation of mulberry. The high quality of mulberry species is less, therefore, it is need to have a program for improving not only quality but also quantity of cocoon production and mulberry leaf. The high quality of mulberry can be found through improving genetic factor by creating new variety. It is need to be adapted in order to avoid the big effect of environmental genetic interaction. The research was conducted in Bimomartani Village, Ngemplak District, Sleman, Yogyakarta, during thirty nine (39) months, started on July 2000 to October 2003. The aim of the research is to know the adaptation ability of mulberry variety as a hybrid between NI and Asl variety compare to local mulberry species (M. alba, M. cathayana, M. canva). Randomized Completely Block Design (RCBD) was used in this research with three blocks. Results of the research showed that variety hybrid of M. var. NI and M. var. Asl is better in adaptation ability compare to local varieties (M. alba, M. cathayana, M. canva). That was proved by the production of mulberry leaf before pruning: M. var. NI (13.76 tons/ha/year), M. var. Asl (10.96 tons/ha/year), M. cathayana (10.8 tons/ha/year), M. canva (6.84 tons/ha/year), and M. alba about 4.61 tons/ha/year. Otherwise, the production after pruning were 45.47 tons/ha/year; 35.19 tons/ha/year; 25.92 tons/ha/year; 19.39 tons/ha/year, and 20.27 tons/ha/year for M. var. NI, M. var. Asl, M. cathayana, M. canva, and M. alba respectively.
