Evaluation of resistance to yellow rust in lines of preliminary, advanced and elite regional wheat yield trail of cold zone (PRWYT,ARWYT,ERWYT-C-82)

In the present study, 289 genotypes of preliminary, advanced and elite regional wheat yield trails were evaluated for reaction to yellow rust at adult plant stage in six locations. Each genotype was planted in two rows, one meter long in the experimental stations. A susceptible cultivar, Bolani, was grown around nurseries and also between the genotypes as spreader. All the genotypes were artificially inoculated with fresh urediniospores of an isolate of Puccinia striiformis collected from the appropriate location for at least two times during growing season. Responses of the genotypes were recorded based on the reaction. According the results, 135 genotypes out of 214 preliminary, 35 genotypes of 60 advanced and 6 genotypes out of 15 elite lines were resistance to the disease. These genotypes were selected for further investigations.
