Effects of application time and sources of potassium fertilizers on quality and quantity of alfalfa yield in Chaharmahal va Bakhtiari province

The following experiments were conducted on 1999-2002, arranged in randomized complete block design in order to study of time of application and sources of potassium fertilizres effects on quality and quantity yield of Alfalfa. This experiment performed with two treatments consist of potassium fertilizers with two levels (F1= KCl , F2= K2SO4) and time of application with three levels (T1= annually, T2= biannually, T3= triennially), with three replication on agricultural research station of Shahrekord. After crop harvestings, wet yield, dry matter yield, potassium and chloride and percentage of protein in plant were determined. Results of this study showed that: • Effects of potassium sulfate on amounts of chloride in plant were statistically significant at 5% level ,but the effects of potassium fertilizer treatments on wet yield, dry matter yield, amounts of potassium and protein in plant were not significant. ( Although in more of studies, KCl effects were better than K2SO4). • Effects of time of application of potassium chloride treatments on wet yield, dry matter yield and percentage of protein were statistically significant at 1% level but the effects of time of application of potassium chloride treatments on amounts of potassium and chloride in plant were not significant. • Effects of time of application of potassium sulfate treatment on percentage of protein were statistically significant at 1% level but the effects of time of application of potassium sulfate treatments on wet yield, dry matter yield, amounts of potassium and chloride in plant were not significant. The results of this research showed that potassium fertilizers and time of application could influence yield indices for alfalfa. We can recommend potassium chloride fertilizer with biannually application for increasing yieid indices of alfalfa.
