A Study on Cattle Rearing in Boushehr Province

There are about 76000 cattle in Boushehr province. They keep in hard cological conditions with the ambient tempreture about 50cْ in summer. In order to survey of breed variation, nutrition, production and hygiene, the province divided to five region by classical method. Data about cattle breeding were collected by using of 200 questionnaires. Accordting to questionnaires information, more than 50 percent of farmers were illiterate. By attention to regions conditions the activity type is differ. In Dashtestan region that the pepole are almost farmer, the highest animal number and crops production was observed. The major oercen of cattle are dairy cattles (native, hybrid and foreign) and the minor is bulls. More than half of native cattles are russet, yellow, gray and black-whitc colors. Some percent of them namely Najdi are yellow-white and black-white colors. Hybrid cattles (Holstein×native and jeresy×native) are black – white and gray colors respectively. The ajority of cattles are dairy. More than of half of cattles fed throught hand feeding and feed is mainely consist of crops by-products (Wheat, barley and sesame straws). In hand feeding system more than 70 percnt of ration is wheat and barley straws and remain part of ration is concentrate. The water resources are the pipe fitting, well and reservoier. Housing is mainely semi-open system and the farmers use almost their own yard as openlet. The housing materials are mainly stone, prick - praster and mud (clay) and the used materials for roof are leaf and sometimes gable. Vaccination has occusionally done. The animal diseases in province are including footrot, black leg, diarrhea, foot and mouth disease, brucellosis and parasitic diseases. The average of milk production, lactating period and dry period are 7 kg, 180 days, and 5-6 months, respectively. The average of mating age of female calf and bull are 21-24 and 10-14 months old respectively. The kind of mating is natural.
