This study was conducted to determine the chemical composition of rangelands forages in northern area of Golestan province in north east of Iran. During three years of study, 174 samples were collected throughout the three zones of the area at first, second and third period of the grazing season. All samples were prepared and analyzed according to the standard methods. Results indicated that the average concentration of crude protein (CP), ether extract (EE), crude fiber (CF), ASH, Ca, P, K, Na and Mg were 11.76, 1.85, 24.09, 17.26, 3.65, 0.34, 1.24, 1.15, and 0.35 percent respectively and the average gross energy was 3142.03 kcal/kg dry mater. The trace elements content of the samples including Mn, Fe, Zn and Cu were 130.29, 18.37, 0.45 and 11.49 mg/kg of dry mater respectively. With exception of the P, K and Na, there were significant(p0.05) variation among the years of sampling for the chemical composition and gross energy contents of the forages.
