Evaluation of quantitative and qualitative traits of bread wheats(T.aestivum L.) in advanced regional wheat yield trial in saline regions of temperate zone

Salinity of soil and irrigation water is one of the most important limiting factors for plant growth and production in Iran. Improving the salt tolerant genotypes of crops is one of the practical solutions for this problem. Wheat (T.aestivum L.) crop is the major cereal grown in Iran. In order to determine yield and some agronomic characteristics of 50 bread wheat genotypes (including 48 lines and 2 varieties Kavir and Roshan as check ) under salinity stress , an experiment was conducted during cropping season of 2003 – 04 in saline temperate stations. Experiment (ARWYT-Salinity) was coducted using alpha-lattice Design with three replications in six saline temperate stations including : Esfahan (Roodasht), Birjand, Kerman, Mashhad, Ghom and Yazd. EC of irrigation water varied between 8-13 ds/m in different locations. During growth season , some characteristics such as date of heading , date of maturity and plant height were noted down .Grain yield and thousand kernel weight of each genotype were determined .Selection of genotypes was done based on mean grain yield , R , SDR and YIR. In overall , 17 genotypes were selected for evaluation in Elite Regional Wheat Yield Trial (ERWYT-Salt ) of next year in saline moderate zone. These genotypes were enteries no.10, 11, 13, 31, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45 and 50 .
