Effect of planting layout on water use efficiency, quantity, andquality of sugar beet yield

A study was conducted at several agricultural research centers such as Karaj, Esfehan, Oromiyeh, Hamedan and Dezful from 1999 to 2001 to For investige the effect of planting layout on water use efficiency in furrow irrigation. The research was performed on the basis of T-test with 6 treatments as follows : 1. Single rows 60 cm apart, all furrows irrigated (every 60). 2. Single rows 60 cm apart, alternate furrow irrigated (alt 60). 3. Single rows 50 cm apart, all furrows irrigated (every 50). 4. Single rows 50 cm apart, alternate furrow irrigated (alt 50). 5. Double rows 100 cm apart (40*60). 6. Double rows 90 cm apart (40*50). The means of quantity and quality of sugar beet yield were compared with each other by T-test. The results indicated that : 1. The highest root yield, white sugar content and sugar yeild was obtained in treatments 3, 6 and 3 respectively. 2. The minimum water consumption was obtained in the treatment 2. 3. The maximum water use efficiency in both root and sugar yield was obtained in the treatment 2 with quantities of 4.69 and 0.69 Kg/m. . 4. Finally, Single rows 60 cm apart planting with alternate furrow irrigated was recommended as the appropriate one.
