Effects of water and N fertilizer application on yield and fruit quality of tomatoes under drip (tape) irrigation system.

In order to investigate the effects of water and N fertilizer levels on the yield and quality of tomatoes, a field experiment was conducted in agricultural research center of Semnan (Shahrood), in 1382 and 1383. A factorial design with randomized blocks and four replication was applied. Treatments were, irrigation water at four levels (40, 60, 80 and 100 percent of crop water requirement), and N fertilizer at three levels (60, 80 and 100 percent according to the soil examenation. Irrigation water requirement was determined by Penman Monteith method, and applied with drip (tape) irrigation system. Irrigation intervals were 4 days. N fertilizer was determined according to soil examination and was injected into drip irrigation system. The results showed that, The effect of water and the interaction effect of water and N fertilizer on the yields of tomatoes was significant. But the effect of N fertilizer on the yield was not significant. Studing the effect of water treatments on yield showed that the maximum yield (86.3 ton/ha) is related to 100% water requirement and the minimum yield (33.8 ton/ha) is related to 40% water requirement. Also interaction effects showed the maximum yield (89.4 ton/ha) for 80% water treatment with all fertilizer levels.The effect of different levels of water on fruit weight, number of fruits on each plant and root length extention of roots were significant. The maximum water efficiency was obtained from W80N60 treatment. The results of the analysis of the effects of W and N factors on quality characteristics showed that they affect the N nitrate accumulation. Other quality characteristics such as BRX, dry mater,pH and vitamin C were also ffected.Finaly the W80N60 treatment was proposed.
