Cold drylands occupy about three million hectares of arable lands in Iran. Vetches may develop drylands through forage production, improvement of soil texture and its fertility, utility of rangelands and by reducing chemical nutrients and pesticides towards a sustainable agriculture. This research was conducted on 14 pure lines of Vicia panonica which were selected from international V. panonica germpalsm received from ICARDA, during one year at four cold and semi-cold research stations including Maragheh, Kurdestan, Shirvan and Sararood. The fields were prepared in mid-September 2006 and were planted in mid-October as a complete block design with three replications. Results showed that all the selected lines could be planted as a winter crop. However, no differences were found between lines regarding biological yield. The compound analysis of Maragheh and Shirvan results showed no significant differences between biomass yield of lines as well as lines×location interaction. Finally, all lines were selected to adaptability studies in multi-location trials at cold and semi-cold areas.
